Speed Skating at the Olympic Oval

I get emails of things to do in the area, and I like to check out the free events. I was excited to see that the World Cup Speed Skating Competition was free! It was held at the Olympic Oval up in Kearns on February 18th. My parents met us there since my dad had the day off. Bryan was wishing he could get the day off to come watch! The boys were excited they gave out free flags to all the kids, and right before we left we saw Martina Sablikova break her own world record for the 5000 meter. That’s her below in the first picture.

Ethan's First Stitches

I always wondered how Bryan and I would react in an emergency......would we be calm and in control? Or would we not handle it quite so well? Now I know that we are both completely hopeless in an emergency! Ethan cut his finger REALLY bad Thursday, February 17, and we had to rush him to the ER. There was screaming and panic, and the kids were probably more afraid of their parents reaction than the actual accident! Thursday wasn’t going so well.....my computer got a virus and I was worried about what to do and how I would get my work done. Ethan asked me to put some batteries in a toy of his that wasn’t working and so I got out my Lady Tool Kit to get a screw driver. In my tool kit there is a small plastic container that holds X-Acto knives in it. Somehow it fell out of the tool box without me even noticing, or Austin somehow took it out without me noticing. I put the tool box away as soon as I replaced the batteries on Ethan’s toy. Then the boys went back into the living room to continue their puppet show while Bryan was trying to help me figure out what to do on my computer. All of a sudden we hear Ethan burst out crying/screaming in pain. Austin had carried the little container into the other room, and Ethan being curious asked, “Austin what do you have in your hands?” He then grabs the container out of Austin’s hands, and while doing so Ethan must have applied enough pressure to snap the lid off, and then one of the X-Acto knives popped out and cut him. It never actually came out of the container, so I’m confused exactly how it popped out, but Ethan said when he grabbed it from Austin it popped out and cut him. He must have been pushing on it with his finger hard, though, because he had a deep cut. Conveniently we live nice and close to the hospital and went right to the E.R. Bryan was applying pressure the whole way over, and when they first looked at it the skin looked like it was back together and maybe he wouldn’t need stitches, but when they examined it further they decided it would be best if he got them. He got five stitches and just got them out yesterday. Poor Ethan! He seems to always be the one getting sick or hurt. I was thinking about when I got stitches, and I realized I was exactly the same age as Ethan when I got mine on my forehead. Here he is waiting, and then with the big wrapping they put around it. He thought it was funny how big it made his finger.

Having Fun with Special Effects

Here’s some pics of the boys with some fun special effects we were playing around with......

Valentine's Fun

For Valentine’s this year, I surprised the boys with a heart attack door and some treats. Then later on my amazing mother-in-law, Barbara, and my amazing sister-in-law, Jessica, came over to cook us dinner and eat with us, but then I noticed Barbara only set the table for two.....and then suddenly there were candles, flowers, and rose pedals on the table as well. They cooked a surprise Valentine’s dinner just for Bryan and I.....how sweet! They are way too good to us! And I’m such a nerd, I never got one picture of Barbara with the boys while she was here visiting from California!

Getting Cozy and Story Time

Nope, that’s not a real fireplace......Bryan plugged in his laptop to the t.v. and he has some program that imitates a real fire, it even has the crackling sound and everything! Pretty fun! Here’s the boys with their Aunt Jessica getting cozy by the fire.

And here’s Austin at story time at the library. It gets pretty crowded!

Thanksgiving Point Dinosaur Museum

Ethan’s school went to Thanksgiving Point’s Dinosaur Museum earlier in February, and I can’t believe it’s the first time I’ve been there! I thought it was a lot of fun, but Ethan didn’t like it too much. He has such a great imagination that I think his imagination runs wild and things scare him easily. They dim the lights inside the museum and they play sound effects of dinosaurs and waterfalls, and he really didn’t enjoy that. Maybe if we went a second time he would warm up to it and like it better. He told me, “This isn’t a fun field trip, it’s a scary field trip!” I actually remembered my camera instead of taking pictures with my iPhone, but maybe I should have used the iPhone....these pictures didn’t turn out too great.

Utah Lake and Winter Kayaking

While in Camarillo, Bryan bought an ocean kayak so that he could exercise outdoors. I don’t know if he’s ever visited a gym in his life, but he says he can’t stand them and instead enjoys exercising outdoors so he can enjoy the beautiful earth. I’m okay with that, except for when it’s freezing outside. That doesn’t stop Bryan, however. He still takes his kayak out to Utah Lake and he also rollerblades the Provo trail for exercise. Here’s some pictures of a recent sunset on Utah Lake while he was kayaking, taken with his iPhone.

Utah's Snowy Mountains

Here’s some pictures of Utah’s snowy mountains with my iPhone......(these may or may not have been taken while driving ;)
